Bio
Hello, I am a doctoral student majoring in special education (focus on autism/DD) at University of Texas at Austin. I studied vocational rehabilitation counseling during my master's program and worked with young adults with disabilities for two years before I began teaching secondary school students with special needs in the greater Austin area. Previous to the MA program, I did human relief /teaching work in underdeveloped nations and in rural areas of Montana. Currently, I research on topics on equitable special education practices with a focus on transition to adulthood for culturally and linguistically diverse students and desire to do research/practice that makes impacts on improving and forming equitable policies and programs for the public school system.
Career Goals
Teaching/research in the areas; 1) strategies for an equitable transition planning to reduce disparity for CLD students with disabilities (ASD/IDD focus), 2) Strategies for developing school culture for neurodiversity affirmative school environment; 3) Policy and programs for preventing youth with ASD/IDD from justice system involvement.
