Person Centered...Practices, Approaches, Plans, Therapy, Healthcare...the list goes on.  "Person Centered" is fast becoming a buzzword, but usually means different things to different people, different professions, different settings.

The Learning Community for Person Centered Practices (www.tlcpcp.com) believes a pervasive presence of Person Centered THINKING (PCT) is critical to creating meaningful Person Centered Plans, where people receiving support lead self-directed lives they find meaningful, with the necessary supports in place.

So..that's easy, right?  Ask people what they want and help them get it.  Person Centered Thinking (PCT) teaches a set of skills - discovery skills, everyday learning skills, and management skills, which help family, friends and support staff discern what's important TO and FOR the person, and how they are best supported.

Plans that are rooted in Person Centered Thinking help us see the person differently and give us a way of acting on what is learned, and have a better chance of resulting in improved lives.

Laura is a Mentor Trainer certified by TLCPCP.  She is working with several TCDS staff members to become certified PCT Trainers.  We invite you to join us for the first of several 2-day training opportunities to learn the PCT skills and see how they can be applied in your personal as well as professional life.
