The Texas Center for Disability Studies/Baylor College of Medicine are partnering with Texas Parent to Parent at their regional conference in San Juan on January 24 (8am-12:30pm) to present on Genetics and healthcare transition.

In the first session, Salma Nassef, Certified Genetics Counselor (CGC) will review genetic carrier screening, cancer genetic testing, and the importance of family history. She will discuss how these tools help you understand your chance of having a child with a genetic condition, your personal and family‑based risk for developing cancer, and how this information can support more informed decisions about your reproductive plans and overall health.

In the second session, Laura Buckner will address the transition from pediatric health care to adult healthcare, including what you need to know; how to write healthcare transition goals into your child’s IEP; and share other tips related to healthcare transition.
