The purpose of the Higher Education Collaborative (HEC) is to expand best practices in supporting students with developmental disabilities to succeed in post-secondary institutions that have traditionally been attended by students without disabilities. The HEC will provide training, technical assistance, and direct financial support through a competitive application process that will ultimately result in 10 new post-secondary training programs that are inclusive of individuals with developmental disabilities.
As part of this collaboration, Texas A&M and the University of Texas at Austin will partner to manage 5 sites each. By the end of year five, it is expected that 400 students with developmental disabilities will have participated in the program across the 10 sites. In order to reach the goal of 400 students served by Spring of 2021, it is anticipated that each site will need to enroll at least 15 students per year.
